Cheryl Chetkiewicz
Cheryl Chetkiewicz, PhD, was a former President of the Ontario Association for Impact Assessment (OAIA) and Conservation Scientist with Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) Canada with expertise in wildlife conservation, environmental planning, and monitoring. Dr. Chetkiewicz focuses on community-based research and monitoring, supporting WCS staff in their individual and programmatic relationships with Indigenous communities where WCS staff are working, and environmental planning, particularly impact assessment and land use planning.
While at OAIA, Dr. Chetkiewicz was instrumental in transforming the Association’s administrative functions into the digital era, and ensured that Association activities continued during the Covid Pandemic using virtual platforms. Amongst OAIA board members, Dr. Chetkiewicz was viewed as a hardworking, collaborative, innovative, trailblazer. She was charming, lovely, loyal, and touched all those who had the pleasure of working with her. She was able to equally collaborate with academics, practitioners, lawyers, industry officials, consultants and Indigenous leaders. In 2023, she was the recipient of the OAIA Past President Award for her contributions to OAIA.
